Obsession– pianorecital

Pianist Eke Simons presents an original program centered around the theme “Obsession,” where passion and subtlety meet.

Featuring works by E. Grieg, S. ten Holt, J.S. Bach, I. Sisask, and K. Wiklander.

The solo program “Obsession” originated from the Andante molto of Eduard Grieg’s Piano Sonata Op. 7, which immediately captivated me with its beautifully infectious, seemingly simple character. The subsequent movements of the sonata soon followed — an original Alla Menuetto and a festive Finale. Aphorism #2 by Simeon ten Holt is a gem, originally a study for his iconic and wildly popular Canto Ostinato. In the three Ballades by the Swedish composer Kurt Wiklander, the emotions reflected in their titles — “Longing,” “Restlessness,” and “Tenderness” — unmistakably resonate through the music. Does Grieg succeed as well with his “Erotic piece”?
